Meaningful Monday

Holding on to my Broken Heart by Jaime Best

“Have you ever been in love? Horrible isn’t it? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your chest and it opens up your heart and it means that someone can get inside you and mess you up. You build up all these defenses, you build up a whole suit of armor, so that nothing can hurt you, then one stupid person, no different from any other stupid person, wanders into your stupid life… You give them a piece of you. They didn’t ask for it. They did something dumb one day, like kiss you or smile at you, and then your life isn’t your own anymore. Love takes hostages. It gets inside you. It eats you out and leaves you crying in the darkness, so simple a phrase like ‘maybe we should just be friend’ turns into a glass splinter working its way into your heart. It hurts. Not just in the imagination. Not just in the mind. It’s a soul-hurt, a real gets-inside-you-and-rips-you-apart pain. I hate love.”

~ Neil Gaiman from The Sandman, Vol.9: The Kindly Ones

Sidenote: If I had the extra cash I would be so very tempted to buy the original from the above photo.  Jaime Best has some amazing artwork available on her website. You should check it out! 🙂

Meaningful Monday

“Love is the condition in which the happiness of another person is essential to your own.”

~ Robert Heinlein

“Condition” makes love sound like some kind of serious medical affliction… Although some days that is probably not too far off!  Love is mostly awesome, sometimes very difficult, and always worth it. (Hopefully that makes sense to someone else besides just me 😉 )

Meaningful Monday

A couple of days a week, on my way to school, I pass a big sign for Sunrise Landscaping.  I always keep an eye out for their sign because they always have some witty or smart saying scrolling across the screen, and they change it every week or two.  These are their latest postings:

“Love isn’t love until you give it away.”

“A true friend sees through you and still enjoys the view.”
