This past Christmas one of the girls I work with needed someone to watch a kitten for her while she went out-of-town. No one else could do it, so I volunteered to babysit him for a few nights.
He was such a cutie with his floofy old man ears but also such a whiney baby! 😛
They ended up naming the little guy Bill 🙂
He almost made me want a floofy, tabby boy of my own! 😛
Lately I have been getting to spend a lot of time with my favorite guy, my nephew Thomas. Not only am I his favorite aunt, I am now also his favorite babysitter 😉
Thomas is growing like a weed and absorbing everything around him like a sponge! It is amazing to watch him experience all types of new things, process them, and figure out how to repeat or copy them. He is even starting to get the hang of repeating things he hears.
I am admittedly biased, but Thomas is really rather awesome. Recently, I even captured some of that awesomeness on video! Here are the three best and most recent videos of him:
In this first one he practices saying “uh oh,” “get down,” and “cuckoo” 😀
In the next one I managed to distract him from the iPad for a minute to get him to copy me 😛
And this last one is of his first, hands-on experience with a puddle 😉
I suspect that this videos will continue to make me smile for a very long time, but I can’t wait to capture even more videographic evidence of how amazing and awesome he is 😉
I think she’s ready for her close-up now…
Oh goodness! It seems I totally forgot to post anything for Furry Friday! To make up for my epic fail I have a few more pictures than usual though and a short synopsis on how the cats did in my car for 40+ hours! 😉
First a couple of Squirt in the car during our very long, cross-country, drive. I ended up doing a combination of keeping the cats in their carriers and letting them out of their carriers on harness and leash. I didn’t have a whole lot of room in my small, 2-door car, so this worked out pretty well for us. When I was driving they were in their carriers, but when my dad was driving and I could supervise them I let them out on harness and leash. During one really long stretch they even used the litterbox in the moving car! Honestly, they both did better then I could’ve hoped for. A little crying and whining, but mostly they just slept and hung out with me when I was playing passenger. You could still tell that Pippi mostly hated the whole ride, but by the third day Squirt was riding in the front seat like a pro, looking fairly comfortable with the situation, and even looking out windows.
Once we got here and got Pippi out of the car she made herself right at home though! Of the two of them she also gets along fairly well with Thomas. Squirt… Well.. Not so much. He hisses and growls at Thomas anytime Thomas gets to close, but he has plenty of spots to get away from Thomas and I never leave them together unsupervised either. He is running away less and less though, so it is a work in progress 😉
Since I have been back in South Florida I have been sleeping on a twin bed… It is usually just Pippi and I in bed as Squirt generally chooses to sleep in his own bed on the floor. I never realized exactly how much room one tiny little eight pound cat can take up though! This bed is not really big enough for both of us, but I suspect I would end up sleeping on the couch before I would ever kick the cute and furry little princess out of the bed!
Pippi just can’t fathom why I would ever call her a bed-hog… It has nothing to do with the fact that she always chooses to lay across the bed this way so that I am squished up against the wall 😛
It must be rough being such a pretty, pretty princess… Requires so much beauty rest and attitude! 😉
Once we get settled in again, I really need to take some new pictures! This one is about a year old… From before we even went to California! Squirt is too cute when he looks deep in thought though 😉
Just wanted to share a few more pictures of Thomas that always make me smile 😀
Wait.. What??? We are going to be in a car for how long?!?!
Today begins our long hike… 2,700 miles from the deserts of Southern California to the swamps of Southern Florida. I hope I won’t need it, but wish us luck! 😉
It is already going on six months since Thomas turned one!
The day before his actual birthday we threw a mini-party for him at my grandma’s (his great-grandma’s) house. It was just my grandparents, my sisters, Thomas, and I. We stuck a candle in a cannoli and sang Happy Birthday. 🙂 It was a lot of fun to watch him eat his first cannoli! (He is 1/8th Italian after all 😉 )
Thankfully my sister got some awesome pictures! Here are a few of my favorites:
He really wasn’t quite sure what to do with it at first, but he ended up finishing the whole thing. In fact, he seemed to enjoy the cannoli more than his actual birthday cake the following day 😛
Its is rather chilly out! We hope everyone is staying warm this winter 🙂
